Obituary for Richard B. Kirby

Richard Bruce Kirby, 82, a resident of Carmel, New York, entered Heaven on December 31, 2022. His family and friends mourn his loss but celebrate that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and we will be with him again one day.

Richard was born to Helen (Townsend) and Robert D. Kirby on July 19, 1940. While growing up in Thornwood, he attended the First Baptist Church in Tarrytown, New York where he met the love of his life, Lois Carol Kirby (who predeceased Richard on May 29, 2022), and was married to her for 61 beautiful years.

Richard proudly served our Country in the Army Reserves from 1959 to 1964. While he and Lois raised their three children, Richard attended night classes studying data processing while working for his father’s hardware business. After graduating, he worked for Ciba-Geigy in Ardsley, New York where he became the Regional Manager of Telecommunications Data Systems. He went on to work for Protocol Computers and the March of Dimes until he retired to spend quality time with his wife, children and grandchildren.

Richard was a devout Christian who deeply loved the Lord and desired all to come to the knowledge of Him. He loved worshiping with Lois at the Red Mills Baptist Church and faithfully read his Bible and prayed daily for his family and friends. One of his many accomplishments was running in the New York City Marathon three times with his best friend Harvey. He loved working with computers; doing any kind of projects he could find around the house; tending to Lois’ garden; vacationing and jet skiing in Rangeley, Maine and Cocoa Beach, Florida, as well as going on cruises with Lois. He was a quiet wise man who always put his wife and family first.

Richard is survived by his three children and their spouses Gary Kirby (Monica), Beth Cohen, and Jennifer Agro (Charles), as well as his six grandchildren: Alyssa Barry (Liam), Morgan, Jason and Dylan Cohen, and Melissa and Lara Agro.

A memorial service has been scheduled for Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the Red Mills Baptist Church in Mahopac Falls, New York. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Red Mills Baptist Church.
