Obituary for Salvatore F. Palmiero

Salvatore F. Palmiero, 91, of Mahopac, NY, passed away at his home on September 12th, 2022. He was born on June 4th, 1931, to Michele and Pasqualina Palmiero in Decorta, Italy. Salvatore joined the Italian Army at age 18 and served for 2 years. Salvatore then worked to became an expert stone mason and helped build Santa Maria Della A’bbondanza church in Decorata, Italy. At the age of 23, he came to the United States of America and built the foundation for his family’s future generations. Salvatore joined the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Union (local 37) in 1956 as a Bricklayer. Salvatore was also instrumental with bringing his family (mother, father, sister – Carmella, brother George) to America and helping them establish their roots in America.

Salvatore married the love of his life, Nicolina, on Sept. 2, 1954. Sal and Nicolina were blessed with two sons, Michael and Ralph, who they raised in the Bronx (Morris Park) until 1971. Sal then moved his family to Mahopac, NY, building a house from the ground up with the hopes of providing a better life and opportunity for his children
While living in the Bronx and in Mahopac, Sal commuted to Manhattan daily where he worked as a highly skilled bricklayer where he spent the majority of his 50 year career working on many of the NYC sky line buildings (Co-Op City, Starret City, A&S) and became a Shop Stewart while working for Andre Lasalle Corp. Salvatore retired in 1993 to spend more time with his family and on his hobbies including gardening, and wine making and spending time with his grandchildren. Salvatore was a devote Catholic and always had a special devotion to the blessed mother. He was one of the founding fathers and officer of the Colle-Decorata Fraternal Society Italian-American club in the Bronx.

Salvatore was a dedicated, honest, and hardworking man that was determined to provide for his family and give them the best life possible. Anyone who knew Sal knew that he was an extremely loving father, husband, grandfather, and friend. He had the unique and undoubted ability to light up any room he walked into. His smile was infectious, and his heart could warm you up on the coldest, toughest days. The sacrifices he made to his wife, sons, grandchildren, and extended family will never be forgotten and will always be cherished.
Sal will truly be missed, and his legacy will live on through his wife, Nicolina of 68 years and his sons, Michael and Ralph and 7 grandchildren.

Salvatore was predeceased by his mother Pasqualina, father Michele, sister Carmella. Salvatore is survived by his wife Nicolina, son Michael (Donna), grandchildren Francesca (Alex), Salvatore, Giorgio, Adrionna, son Ralph (Josephine), grandchildren Nicholas, Michael, Christopher. Brother George.

Services will be held at Balsamo-Cordovano Funeral Home on September, 14th at 2pm – 4pm and 5:30pm – 8:30pm. Mass will be held at St. James the Apostle Church in Carmel NY at 10am Thursday, Sept. 15th.
